April: Out of My Comfort Zone in New Jersey
I have been invited to teach a 3-Day Workshop at the Pine Shores Art Association in Manahawkin, NJ, April 7-9, 2025.
What a wonderful opportunity! But I'll be honest, it's a bit unnerving - totally out of my comfort zone. Since retiring from public school teaching 10 years ago, I have only taught online. The doubts creep in ...
- Can I be on my feet for 6 to 8 hours? Do I have the energy?
- What if the participants don't like the instruction and the paintings?
- Can I paint large enough for them to see?
And, I'll be doing a Zoom demo on March 3 - create a painting in only 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
- I usually paint slowly. Can I paint something in this short of time?
- I am a morning person. The demo is in the evening. Ugh.
I'd love to hear from you - have you taken in-person workshops? Feel free to offer your suggestions to help me be an effective teacher - anything you can think of. And thanks.
Do you have an opportunity to break out of your comfort zone?
Do it! What is the worst that could happen? It might not work out, and that's ok. Think of it as a learning experience. If you fall, get up, dust off, take a break, think about it, and do it again. Or, go a different direction. It's part of the twists and turns of life. And in the end, we look back, and we were dancing!
Thanks for reading all the way to the end.
I wish you all the best,
Rebecca Rhodes
